HrayBery is a Polish-Ukrainian ensemble that breathes new life into forgotten music.
The ensemble's repertoire consists of dance pieces (including Cossack dances, kolomyika, mazurka, polka and waltz music) reconstructed from archival sources such as recordings and sheet music. Ukrainian and Polish researchers have collected melodies from the border region between the two countries. The repertoire demonstrates how this area was once a melting pot of different cultures.
The instruments used by the ensemble - such as violin, kantele, frame drum and bass - were common in these regions from the late 1500s onwards. The ensemble's sound gives listeners the opportunity to immerse themselves in old, multicultural dance music. Music that was played in areas where Poles, Ukrainians, Jews and Roma lived together.
HrayBery has performed at numerous dance festivals and concerts in the ensemble members' home country of Poland. The ensemble has toured abroad in Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Italy, and participated in the WOMEX world music event in Finland in 2025. In 2023, the ensemble released their first album Karczma (Tavern).
