DJ Spanish Fly arrives in Finland for the first time on Wednesday 5.8. at Ääniwalli. Under his real name Antonio D. Kimbrough, he is a hip-hop pioneer known as the "godfather of Memphis rap". Since the mid-1980s, this artist has revolutionized the Southern hip-hop sound by combining heavy bass lines, ethereal melodies, and Roland TR-808 drum machines. Tracks like "Get Buck" and "Gangsta Walk" became cornerstones of the Memphis underground scene, and "Gangsta Walk" spawned a dance of the same name that is today considered the precursor to the global Jookin phenomenon.

Fly's own approach to producing and distributing music - often through cassettes circulating locally - helped democratize hip-hop production in the southern United States. He deeply influenced local legends like Three 6 Mafia and 8Ball & MJG, as well as the later rise of crunk and trap music.

The evening also features Eevil Stöö's Memphis-influenced DJ set and DJ Kridlokk's UG Tapes live set, consisting of rare old recordings and new remixes.
