Jyväskylä Sinfonia: Brahms in Double
Thu 24.9. At the Pavilion at 6 p.m. Conductor Lorenzo Passerini, soloists violinist Leea Mattila and cellist Ilkka Kauppi.
The programme features two works by Brahms: the Double Concerto for violin and cello, and Symphony No. 3.
Johannes Brahms was in many ways a contradictory figure: he championed classical forms during the Romantic era, when music's boundaries were constantly being pushed further. He achieved fame and wealth in his lifetime, but lived modestly - he spent his money mainly on manuscripts of Bach and other old masters. He even grew his famous beard only to avoid wearing a tie.
Leea Mattila, winner of last year's Juhani Heinonen violin competition, and Jyväskylä Sinfonia's principal cellist Ilkka Kauppi perform together under the direction of chief conductor Passerini.
Tickets: 34 € | 31 € | 15 €. More information: [email protected] or 0400640109.
