Saunakylä Saturday evening public saunas

Saunakylä in Juokslahti, Jämsä is a smoke-sauna village with over 20 traditional smoke saunas built between the 1700s and 1940s from various parts of Finland. Every summer Saturday from mid-May through the end of September, 10-14 of these saunas are heated for public use. These are working saunas, not museum exhibits.

Admission costs 20 €, and children under 16 enter free. Tickets are purchased on site at the café. No advance booking is required.

The area has separate changing rooms and showers for men and women, plus three warm washing stations. You can swim in Lake Päijänne, and there are bonfire spots and two gas grills for cooking sausages. The café serves drinks and light snacks.

Bring a swimsuit, towel or bathrobe, a sauna mat, a sauna hat, and a water bottle - flip-flops or similar footwear are practical. Towels and sauna mats can also be rented on site. A bus runs to the stop "Juokslahti (Jämsä)", from which it is about 800 m to Saunakylä (matkahuolto.fi).
