IS WISDOM STILL WISDOM?

Wisdom is not just about content and facts - it always involves the speaker's position and rhetoric. What don't we do under the influence of seemingly wise words, and is it still worthwhile to be wise? How do we recognize true wisdom, can we value it, and how can education and culture create space for it?

Researcher Minni Matikainen, rap artist Karri Miettinen (Paleface), and author and philosophy freelancer Pontus Purokuru discuss the tension between wisdom and power. The moderator is researcher Marleena Mustola. The working group includes researchers Tiia-Mari Hovila, Simo Monto, Tiia Heikkilä, and Tuomo Virtanen.

Minni Matikainen researches transformative processes in teacher learning and the development of thinking at the teacher education institute of the University of Jyväskylä. Karri Miettinen (Paleface) is a pioneer of Finnish rap; he has also written non-fiction books and researched the music of the Finnish-American labor movement as a member of the band Laulava Unioni. Pontus Purokuru produces the podcasts Selitä mulle and Mikä meitä vaivaa - his latest work is Keskeytysten arkisto. Marleena Mustola is a researcher at the University of Jyväskylä specializing in philosophy of education and early childhood science.
