Aizhan Sultan & Saku Liimatainen - Night of the Arts at Espa Stage

Aizhan Sultan (Kazakhstan) and Saku Liimatainen (Finland) perform together on Espa stage during the Night of the Arts. The performance brings together modern Finnish and Kazakhstani folk music.

Singer, songwriter and researcher Aizhan Sultan explores disability, identity and postcolonial memory in her work. She employs Kazakhstani terme-singing, throat-singing and shanqobyz playing to revive traditional sounds.

Saku Liimatainen is a live electronics musician, pianist and composer whose soundscapes unite modern Finnish sound aesthetics with Aizhan's nomadic roots. His live electronics are built on ambient layers, rhythm and improvisation.

Together they explore history, identity and artistic freedom.
