Helsinki Opera Summer: Divas in the Studio

"Divas in the Studio" is a sharp and humorous musical theatre production where history meets the present day. The Finnish opera divas Ida Aalberg and Aino Ackté speak candidly before the tv studio's spotlights: they recount their careers and the difficulties of balancing work and family life. The interviewer is a contemporary tv influencer who mirrors the divas' experiences against today's world.

In the first act we follow the nerve-wracking preparations for the big moment; in the second, the cameras roll and the live broadcast begins. The script was written by art historian and author Anna Kortelainen, the music composed by Olli Kortekangas.

On stage are harpsichordist-actress Elina Mustonen (Ida Aalberg), opera singer Reetta Ristimäki (Aino Ackté), musical theatre actress Heljä Heikkinen as the tv influencer, and pianist Anu Silvasti as the studio director.
