Mozart & Salieri is based on Aleksandr Pushkin's literary vision of the relationship between two composers - an interpretation that has left its mark on Western cultural tradition and is known from Peter Shaffer's play Amadeus and Miloš Forman's film version. The work does not present historical truth but poses a question: what happens when exceptional genius meets human envy? Rimski-Korsakov's miniature opera approaches this scenario through music and drama.

Zanetto depicts the final moments in the life of a 1960s film star, as men from her past - an athlete, a director, and a politician - emerge from her memories. The work is by Pietro Mascagni.
