Tango's Four Seasons

Tango is one of the most widely travelled musical forms of the 20th century. As it spread from continent to continent, it acquired different meanings: in Argentina, Astor Piazzolla shaped it into concert music, while in Finland tango became a shared musical language - often slower, introspective, and shaped by silence.

The heart of the concert is Piazzolla's Buenos Aires Four Seasons, which provides the evening's structure. Each season is followed by a Finnish tango that reflects how that moment in the annual cycle is experienced in the north. The prologue opens with El Choclo (Fiery Kiss), then the journey moves from winter's stillness - Invierno Porteño and Full Moon - to spring's fragile awakening (Primavera Porteña, Helvi Mäkinen's Rose of Kotka, arranged by Elisar Riddel), summer's longing (Verano Porteño, Fairyland), and autumn's deepening darkness (Otoño Porteño). Jacob Gaden's Tango Jalousie (Jealousy) returns tango to Europe.

The performers are international concert violinist Linda Suolahti, winner of the 2026 Turku Cello Competition Artturi Aalto, and conductor-pianist Miikka Taipale. As an encore, Jaani Helander's Song 1, op. 10 for piano trio will be performed.

The event is organized in collaboration with the Central Library Oodi. Admission is free.
