Song from the Uproar

Song from the Uproar: The Lives and Deaths of Isabelle Eberhardt is an opera composed by Missy Mazzolin. It is based on the diaries and writings of Swiss-born adventurer, author, and explorer Isabelle Eberhardt (1877-1904). The opera follows Isabelle as she abandons Europe and ventures into the deserts of North Africa - living as a nomad, often dressed as a man, searching for her place in the world and within herself.

The work constructs a layered journey through Isabelle's experiences: grief and loss, the awakening of love, the sense of freedom, and the mystery of death. Mazzolin's music combines modern expression, repetitive structures, and profound emotionality.
