Dance Time 2026: Workshop - Leevi Rauhalahti
A workshop led by Leevi Rauhalahti that introduces participants to his practice of "study of gendered shapes" through movement. The exercises are grounded in the idea that by understanding our tendency to perceive body forms and movement as gendered, we can explore alternative ways of relating to our own bodies.
The workshop begins with a guided warm-up, first connecting to your own body, then to the space and other bodies. This is followed by guided improvisation exercises, with time to share reflections between them. The session concludes by returning to your own body to reflect on the experience.
The material draws from Rauhalahti's residency work at Dansverkstæðið (Iceland), where he facilitated improvisation-based dance classes for the local trans community (Contemporary Dance for Trans People: Movement as a tool for gender-affirming experiences). The Dance Time festival workshop is open to anyone interested in gender diversity and its connection to movement. The same exercises form the foundation of Rauhalahti's solo work "Wounding the World", which is also on the festival programme.
Tickets: 25 € (regular price) and 15 € (discount groups). Organizer: Keski-Suomen Tanssin keskus, [email protected], 044 399 2234.
