Guided tour of Joutsa Rural Museum

Joutsa Rural Museum is located on Koiravuori farm, approximately two kilometers north of the parish center. The area was inhabited until the late 19th century, and the museum complex was established starting in 1964. None of the buildings stand on their original sites - all have been relocated. The museum sits on a gentle slope, with the farmyard covering about 1.5 hectares, and a windmill positioned outside the main courtyard.

The main building is the former Mesiäinen house from Marjotaipale village, a typical Finnish farmhouse. The oldest part of the house, the main room, is over 200 years old - the builder's name and exact construction date are unknown.

The museum hosts various events annually, including parts of the Joutsa parish festival, Joutopäivät. The museum is managed by Joutsan Kotiseutuyhdistys rf.
