Culture Stage: Graffiti as Art

The Culture Stage event takes place on Monday 24.8. at 18:00 on the stage of the 1st floor of Jyväskylä City Library. The topic is graffiti as art, presented by Jukka Silokunnas, coordinator of the Jyväskylä Art Museum's graffiti project. Admission is free.

Jyväskylä Art Museum launched an extensive sociocultural project in autumn 2025 with support from the Finnish Heritage Agency, placing young graffiti artists' creative work and culture at the centre of museum activities. The project "Graffiti as Art and Profession" aims to strengthen young creators' artistic identity, document Jyväskylä's local graffiti culture, and build bridges between the art museum, youth work, and street artists. The coordinator is Jukka Silokunnas, a Jyväskylä-based visual artist and street culture expert who has studied street and graffiti art for over two decades.

As part of the project, the Jyväskylä Art Museum presents the exhibition "Graffiti City" from 19.9.2026 to 17.1.2027, and at Gallery Momentti, the new generation of graffiti culture showcases itself from 20.11.2026 to 17.1.2027.
