Harju Observation Tower — Harju, Vesilinna, Jyväskylä

Harju, a forested ridge, rises just beside Jyväskylä's city centre, and atop it stands Vesilinna with its observation towers - one of the city's most recognizable landmarks. From the tower, a 360-degree view opens across Jyväskylä - lake landscapes, city, and surrounding nature all visible at once.

The tower also houses the University's Natural History Museum and restaurant Vesilinna, so your visit can include a coffee break or meal. Entry to the observation tower is free. The tower is accessible by lift, but the viewing platform requires climbing stairs - the site is not fully wheelchair accessible. Opening hours follow restaurant Vesilinna Cafe & Restaurant's schedule, so check their website for current information before your visit.

On summer evenings, Harju's evening concert echoes from the trumpet at Vesilinna's peak every night at 8 p.m. - a tradition that has continued since 1976.

Harju's summit has a few parking spaces for café-restaurant and museum visitors. You can also park at the Harjunrinteen parking area on Yliopistonkatu.
