MAR / MÆR: Camouflage Strategies

MAR/MÆR is a performance art duo consisting of Mari Pitkänen and Kaja Mærk Egeberg. Since 2017, the duo has explored concealment through performances in public spaces - the first work was created on a wall at Lapeyrouse Cemetery in Port of Spain during Trinidad and Tobago's carnival, the most recent in collaboration with oaks, lichens, and the BLOOM festival in Søndermarken park in Copenhagen.

The Camouflage Strategies series began with a desire to disappear completely and merge with the landscape. Through camouflage strategies borrowed from the animal kingdom, the artists investigate how concealment can transcend the boundaries between body and space - and how perception is simultaneously unsettled. The current research focuses on lichens as partners: through cross-species collaboration, new ways of understanding the complexity of symbiosis are sought.

At Biotaiteen seura, the performance work's processes are presented as a video exhibition.
