Helvi Juvonen - in Multiple Margins

Helvi Juvonen was a pioneer of Finnish modernist poetry - yet also a devout Christian who lived together with the woman she loved. Such a combination was not understood in post-war Finland, where homosexuality was simultaneously a crime, an illness, and a sin.

The lecture examines what Juvonen's life was like in this contradictory situation and how the attitudes of the time affected her artistic work. The speaker is Katri Viitaniemi, a Master of Arts and non-fiction author.
