Mervi Karhunen - Steps into the Unknown

Arabianranta Library hosts Mervi Karhunen's art exhibition Steps into the Unknown from 4 August to 30 September 2026.

The works in the exhibition have been created through experimentation with painting techniques. Karhunen has worked with liquid colour and largely without traditional painting tools - an approach that has taken her away from pre-planning and towards a creative, unknown territory. The process has contained such surprises that it is sometimes difficult to recall how a finished work came into being.

Karhunen graduated as a painter from the Academy of Fine Arts and works in Helsinki as a visual artist and art teacher. Following her academic art studies, she has also completed training in expressive art therapy. Key influences on her artistic practice are a childhood surrounded by visual art, extensive travels to Asia, and an interest in linguistic expression and personal growth.

The exhibition is organised in collaboration with the Helsinki Artists' Association.
