Anton Alvarez: The Colour of Gravity

Helsinki Contemporary presents Anton Alvarez's first solo exhibition in Finland. The Colour of Gravity features striking ceramic sculptures that comment on human scale and challenge perceptions of craft and technology's roles in art.

Alvarez approaches art through material and process: he designs and builds the machines that create his works himself, combining the roles of engineer and craftsman. Beyond ceramics, he has worked with wire and paper pulp. The exhibition's pieces range from large to small - in the smallest works, one can sense the pull of gravity and the pressure of compressed clay.

Anton Alvarez (born 1980, Uppsala) graduated from Royal College of Art in London and Konstfack in Stockholm. His work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions since 2014, and he has created public works in Sweden and collaborated with Gucci, Fendi, Acne, and Issey Miyake.
