King Charles I of England, Scotland, and Ireland was one of the most significant art collectors of his era, and his collection was among the most prestigious of the 17th century. The English Civil War scattered the collection, but after the Restoration, many works were recovered. Today, the collection's treasures can be seen at institutions including the Louvre in Paris and the Prado in Madrid.
