Mirjam Yeboah: Emellan

Emellan is a textile installation that visitors can walk into. The exhibition, made from recycled textiles, wearable sculptures, and soundscapes, invites you to experience the space with your whole body. The installation explores Afro-Scandinavian and Fanto-Finnish-Swedish identity: clothes function as roles, masks, and survival strategies - ways of navigating the expectations of the surrounding world.

The work examines the layered nature of identity and how the past, community, and personal memories move through the present. Soft, tactile sculptures and participatory elements invite the viewer into a bodily experience rather than a purely visual one.

During the exhibition, three participatory workshops take place inside the installation, where participants can leave their mark on the work under the artist's guidance. The exhibition also offers a guided tour in Finnish sign language on Saturday 18.10.2026 from 13.00 to 14.00.

Mirjam Yeboah is a Finnish-Ghanaian textile artist who specializes in costume design and pedagogy. Her art emerges from the intersection of her own identities and a decolonial approach - for her, textile is both a tool and an element that speaks for itself.
