Sofra Trio & Lumira - Nomads Festival at Vuotalo

Two musical ensembles meet in this concert - Sofra Trio and Lumira - sharing the same core musicians but each with their own distinct sonic worlds.

Sofra Trio consists of musicians Melisa Yıldırım, Merve Abdurrahmani and Hadi Hrekes. The ensemble draws from both traditional repertoire and original compositions, and its music brings together Syrian, Turkish and Balkan traditions.

Lumira makes its debut this evening. Merve Abdurrahmani and Melisa Yıldırım are joined by Aki Rissanen in a new ensemble that moves between Finnish, Balkan and Turkish musical heritage. The programme is built on original compositions and folk songs - particularly lullabies and children's songs - and explores themes of memory, loss and care. The ensemble's name combines the words snow (light, northern silence) and mira (peace in many languages).
