With Brush and Camera - Seppo J. Rantala's Photography Exhibition

Photographer Seppo J. Rantala has created staged photographic interpretations of 16 classic Finnish artworks from the 19th century. The exhibition features renowned paintings by Akseli Gallen-Kallela, Helene Schjerfbeck, Hugo Simberg, Albert Edelfelt, Maria Wiik, and Ellen Thesleff - each reimagined through the camera lens. All images are printed on canvas and framed.

The idea emerged when Rantala photographed Edelfelt's "Boys Playing on the Beach" in 2020 for an exhibition at Naantali's art gallery. In 2022, he collaborated with a photography club on a historical photography project titled "Past Times in Raisiö," featuring themes such as medieval weddings, tenant farming, and dances - using costumes and models from Raisiö's theatre. These historically themed photographs led to the concept of systematically recreating works by Finnish Golden Age masters.

The exhibition is displayed in the gallery of Pasila Library.
