The book release takes place on Tuesday, August 18 at 6 p.m. on the Saarikoski mat at Odi (3rd floor).

Sakari Ylivuori's work Voices That Were Not Meant to Be Heard - A Critical Examination of 19th-Century Finnish Choral Music Historiography (Sibelius Academy Publishing Series 36) examines how the image of 19th-century Finnish choral music has been formed and what has been left out. Consisting of three essays, the book demonstrates how national narratives, choirs' identity projects, and institutional continuities have shaped the understanding of choral singing's early stages. The book also highlights figures whose significance has received little attention.

Ylivuori is a doctor of music from the Sibelius Academy who has worked in choral music as a researcher, conductor, and singer for several decades.

Books will be available for purchase at the event.
