Sakari Ylivuori holds a doctorate in music from the Sibelius Academy and researches Finnish choral music and its historiography. His book *Äänet joita ei haluttu kuulla* (2025) critically examines how the history of 19th-century Finnish choral music has been written - and what has been left out. He also works as a choral conductor alongside his academic work.
