Fandango x Tekstin Taco

The Fandango series welcomes two special guests from Veracruz, Mexico - from the heart of the son jarocho musical tradition: a musician and instrument maker. Guest chef Mara Lozano and Amado Peña interpret Nordic seasonal flavours through Mexican culinary arts.

In the afternoon, José Mariano and Julio César Corro lead a Son Jarocho masterclass (4 pm-6 pm, permanto hall) introducing the rhythm, structure and cultural background of son jarocho. In Veracruz folk tradition, music, Zapateado dance and sung poetry interweave. Julio César Corro is a master instrument builder from Tlacotalpán, folk musician and cultural educator who received the Masters of Mexico's Artisanal Heritage Award in 2022.

The day culminates in the Fandangokarkelot session starting at 6.30 pm, led by Jaranas del Norte. Everyone is welcome to participate - by playing, singing, dancing, being present or contributing lyrics. The night continues with Mitotl's dj set (electrocumbia, latin beats, techno) from 10 pm to 2 am.
