Kajaani City Theatre: Väliintulo - A Hymn to Literacy

Ticket sales at the door begin at 17:00 (if tickets remain available). The audience will be admitted to the hall around 17:45, and doors close at 18:00 - please arrive on time. The performance runs 1 hour 15 minutes with no intermission. Seating is unreserved. The event has no age restriction, but is recommended for ninth-grade students and older.

Today, a ninth-grade teacher tries to get her students to read. In the 1840s, a church sexton attempts to make his brothers read. The times and teaching methods differ - but have young people really changed? The heavenly council sends the sexton from Aleksis Kivi's "Seven Brothers" into the present day to do his homework, and the teacher wrestles with her conscience. The encounter is not without sparks, but the pair need each other.

Väliintulo is a new play by Kajaani-born dramatist Pipsa Enqvist, who has a teaching background, about the importance of literacy and teaching reading. Screenplay: Pipsa Enqvist.
