Markku Keränen: Little Summer

In Markku Keränen's tempera paintings, abstract forms engage in genuine dialogue with one another. Circular figures are in constant motion - shifting in colour, drawing near and moving away from each other - until each sphere finally finds its own nature. Through his serial working method, Keränen anchors himself in the tradition of painting, and the composition builds a new world in each work.

Keränen's artistic career began in the 1970s, and his expression has gradually shifted from the figurative towards the abstract. What unites different periods is the glow of colour and light: the new paintings rest in a serene colour palette, where a single work can contain dozens of shades.

Markku Keränen (born 1945) graduated from the University of Industrial Arts in Helsinki, where he later also taught. He has had numerous solo and group exhibitions in Finland and abroad, and his works are held in significant collections.
