Mie Olise Kjærgaard: Off the Deep End

Mie Olise Kjærgaard paints women in motion - skiing, playing tennis, riding horses, swimming, and making music, often with a child in their arms or on their back, moving with urgency and joy.

The dynamic and expressive style emphasizes the figures' independence and strength. Her works speak not of perfection but of persistence, resourcefulness, and the courage to act.

In "Off the Deep End," the focus shifts to an underwater realm where gravity seems to have dissolved. Women have dived beneath the surface and swim alongside fish and hammerhead sharks in a world governed by different laws than the land above - in the depths, bodies are free to find their own form. The exhibition asks: what surfaces when we dare to surrender to play, take risks, or let go of gravity?

Mie Olise Kjærgaard (born 1974) holds an MA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins in London and MAs in Architecture from Aarhus School of Architecture and Bartlett School of Architecture. She has exhibited extensively in international solo and group shows, and her work is held in several significant collections.
