Baltic Sea Day at Suomenlinna

Suomenlinna celebrates Baltic Sea Day on 27.8.2026 from 10:00 to 20:00. The programme spans the entire day and suits visitors of all interests.

10.00 & 13.15 - Beach Cleanup
Free guided tours where beach litter is collected and counted, and visitors learn where the debris washing up on Suomenlinna's shores comes from. Departure from the main pier at the ferry terminal, duration approximately 2 hours.

10.30-14.00 - Fun Fish Drawing Workshop, Suomenlinna Museum

16.00-16.45 - Guided tour of the "Seafarer's Maps" exhibition, Ehrensvärd Museum

17.00-19.00 - "Birds of the Archipelago" exhibition, free entry, old fish-smoking house corridor

From 18.00 - Herman Brothers, Cafe Bar Valimo

18.00 - Plunge into the Baltic Sea, Suomenlinna beach - belongings can be left at the Powder Magazine

18.00 - Algae sample collection, Suomenlinna beach. Algae researcher Sonja Repetti collects samples from the sea using a plankton net; those interested can participate in the sampling.

19.00 - Flagellate Collective concert, Powder Magazine
The concert presents samples collected from the Baltic Sea viewed through a microscope and projected on a screen. Musicians respond to the movements of algae and other planktonic organisms using traditional brass and woodwind instruments as well as horns made from kelp. The performance includes an introduction to the algae and instruments used. Voluntary contribution, suggested 5-20 €.
