Former Russian Ambassador Antti Helanterä discusses his book Notes from Moscow (Siltala).

The work traces Russia's development across a generation - from Gorbachev to Putin, from the end of the Cold War to the invasion of Ukraine. Why did Russia not become a democracy, how did it prepare for war, and what was the country like before the war? The book draws on extensive archival material and diary entries from Helanterä's time as ambassador - including what it was like to represent Finland, declared hostile, and work at the embassy under extraordinary circumstances.
