Antti Helanterä (born 1971, Helsinki) is a Finnish diplomat and non-fiction author who served as Finland's Ambassador to Russia in Moscow from September 2020 to August 2024, and has since October 2024 held the post of Director of Strategy at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. He has followed Russian politics since the 1990s and co-authored the Tieto-Finlandia Prize-winning book Maantieteelle Venäjä ei voi mitään (2002). His 2026 memoir Muistiinmerkintöjä Moskovasta draws on his ambassador-era diaries to trace Russia's trajectory from Gorbachev to Putin and from the end of the Cold War to the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Suomen Kuvalehti reviewed Muistiinmerkintöjä Moskovasta alongside another Russia book, calling the two works complementary accounts of Russia's wartime transformation.
Multiple Finnish media outlets published reviews of Muistiinmerkintöjä Moskovasta, with MTV Uutiset describing it as a substantive account of Russia's recent decades.
Muistiinmerkintöjä Moskovasta was published by Siltala on 16 February 2026, with a launch event in Helsinki on 9 February where Helanterä discussed the book's themes with former politician Annika Saarikko.
Helanterä published a column in Uutissuomalainen analysing the diplomatic background to Russia's war in Ukraine and the significance of the Alaska talks.
After completing his posting in Moscow in August 2024, Helanterä took up the role of Director of Strategy at Finland's Ministry for Foreign Affairs from October 2024.
