Antonín Dvorák: Requiem

Dvoráks Requiem was composed in 1889-1890 at the height of his career - not driven by grief, but as a deliberate artistic summation. He himself regarded it as one of his most significant works.

A work that stands alongside the Requiems of Mozart and Verdi, it is restrained in character. Rather than dramatic images of horror, Dvorák approaches death with calm solemnity - as a farewell to life and its most cherished things.
