City of Light at Toivola's Old Courtyard

The City of Light event fills Toivola's old yard, the Old Parsonage in Jyväskylä, and the Cultural Building with light art and soundscapes from 25.9 to 3.10, 18:00-23:00.

At Toivola's yard you can admire light artworks and enjoy café snacks, street food dishes, and drinks from the yard kiosk. The Old Parsonage offers a programme as well as a light and sound dinner, with café and drink service. The Cultural Building features JKL Base Night on Friday 26.9 - an evening combining music and light show - and a murder mystery on Thursday 2.10.

Several artworks are on display in the Toivola setting: "Hohto" by Kari Alonen (2020), a glowing network artwork on Toivola's cellar roof; "Pirunpelto" by Kari Alonen (2021), combining Olga Kolari's poem and soundscape on the cellar roof; "Tree of Fulfilled Wishes" by Katja Rauhamäki (2021), made from glass of broken bottles found in Toivola; "Surprise Artwork" in the yard; and "Flowers in the Shadows of Light" by flower service Vehkanna/Hanna Vehkalampi (2026) in Toivola's Storehouse 1. An art exhibition is also displayed in Toivola's Storehouses 2-4 during the event.
