City of Light at Toivola's Old Courtyard

City of Light fills Toivola's old courtyard with artworks, light and sound installations from 25.9-3.10, 18-23. In the courtyard you can admire the lights and enjoy café treats, street food and drinks from the courtyard café.

Jyväskylä Old Parsonage participates in the week's programme with events, a light and sound dinner, and café refreshments and drinks. Various events are held at the Cultural Heritage site - on Friday 26.9 JKL Base Night combines music and light show, and on Thursday 2.10 the programme features a murder mystery.

Toivola's setting displays several artworks. Kari Alonen's Hohto (2020) is located on top of Toivola's cellar, and his work Pirunpelto (2021) - which combines Olga Kolar's poem and sound world - is on the upper courtyard on the cellar roof. Katja Rauhamäki's Tree of Fulfilled Wishes (2021) is made from broken glass bottles found at Toivola using glass fusing technique and is displayed on the house's veranda. In Toivola's Storehouse 1 is Flower Service Vehkanna / Hanna Vehkalam's work Flowers in the Shadow of Light (2026), and in Storehouses 2-4 an art exhibition is on display throughout the event. A surprise artwork is also located in the courtyard.
