The Young Star of the Organ: Jan Liebermann

Born in 2005, Jan Liebermann is an award-winning German organist who has won numerous international organ competitions. He made his debut at Berlin's Philharmonie concert hall both as a soloist and as a soloist with the Berlin Philharmonic in autumn 2025.

Liebermann compares the organ to an orchestra: "We organists can switch between countless different instruments at the same time. We have flutes, we have trumpets, trombones and string instruments - an entire symphony orchestra." He is also fascinated by how each organ is unique, with its own character and possibilities.

The programme includes Bach's Passacaglia in C minor BWV 582, Karg-Elert's 7 Pastels from the Lake of Constance Op. 96 (parts III and V), Mendelssohn's overture from the oratorio Paul (arr. William T. Best), Bach's chorale fantasias BWV 684 and BWV 653, and Liszt's Fantasia and Fugue on the chorale "Ad nos, ad salutarem undam".
