Birds and Nature of Vuosaari in Photographs

Vuosaari photographer Eddie Iles shares his passion for photography and nature observation, presenting his photographs of birds and other wildlife.

Iles has been photographing since his teenage years and has been an active member of Kameraseura rf since 1986. He has organized several solo and group exhibitions and photographed diverse subjects - people, landscapes, and nature.

Iles has lived in Vuosaari for 11 years. After retiring in 2012, his camera became a constant companion on nearly daily hour-long walks. Though he doesn't consider himself a traditional nature photographer, the opportunities nature provides have become an important part of his everyday life.

"When I became what you might call a free man in 2012, I spent a lot of time in nature, including on the nature trail at Pornaistenniemi in Helsinki's Old Town. In spring I was captivated by the abundance of bird calls and started recording them on video. After we moved to Vuosaari in 2015, I continued my daily walks and the camera became a natural companion. Usually I bring a quality compact camera, sometimes also a system camera."
