Isabella Chydenius: Sketches from the Shadows of Night

The exhibition's sculptures are based on Chydenius' research into safer space club culture and queer nightlife.

The rigid square forms reference heteronormative patriarchal norms that seek to control and restrict people who challenge these norms - yet they simultaneously outline a protected space where community and self-expression are possible. The light within the sculptures serves as a metaphor for the joy and empowerment that emerges in safer space clubs: as the light escapes the square's boundaries, it symbolically challenges the limits imposed by oppressive structures.
