MuseoFest: Lieroinen, Kalmu-Sakri, Kyyrä and Others - Witchcraft in Central Finland

Archaeologist Noora Hemming from the Central Finland Museum examines in her lecture the witches who operated in the Central Finland region from the 1600s to the early 1900s based on historical and documentary sources. Who exactly were these mystique-shrouded wise men?

In reality, witches were often men who traveled from place to place, and people turned to them with illnesses, lost items, and other everyday problems. Lieroinen, Kalmu-Sakri, Kyyrä and other wise men of their time were important figures in their communities - and their true stories can be just as fascinating as the legends. The lecture is in Finnish.
