Library of Darkness Suomenlinna

Library of Darkness Suomenlinna is a wooden pavilion that gathers the knowledge and experiences of Suomenlinna residents about darkness on the island. It has been developed as part of the Caring Commons research project, funded by the Nessling Foundation and led by postdoctoral researcher Gloria Lauterbach from the NODUS Sustainable Design Research Group at Aalto University. The pavilion was built in collaboration with Aalto University's Department of Architecture.

The project investigates how creative methods can strengthen relationships between people and nature, and promote change toward sustainable development. Key questions include: how could a darker Helsinki support the wellbeing of people, wildlife, and nature, and how do darkness and environment support each other?
