Lights of Lemmenpolku

Lights of Lemmenpolku is an outdoor event in Leppiniemi, Muhos, set in the landscape at the start of Lemmenpolku trail. The programme features multimedia and partially immersive artworks - light sculptures, performances, and environmental installations - along with a path illuminated by outdoor fires with fire pits. The works explore humanity's relationship with nature and nature's effects on wellbeing and development.

Leppiniemi is a culturally and historically significant area on the banks of the Oulujoki river, next to Pyhäkoski power plant. Architect Aarne Ervi designed the area's buildings in the 1940s-1960s as a residential neighbourhood for the power plant's workers. At the start of Lemmenpolku are elements designed by Ervi, including a bridge over landscape ponds and outdoor lighting poles.

Lemmenpolku takes its name from old midsummer traditions, when it was a popular place to spend intimate time together. Today the trail functions as a hiking route.
