Mariia Niskavaara as Author Guest

At the opening of Jumbo Library, author Mariia Niskavaara visits and is interviewed by librarian Taru Mäkelä. No advance registration is required for the event.

Niskavaara discusses her debut work Ester, the Butcher (Kosmos, 2025), which explores the connections between meat, motherhood, and death through grotesque humour. The book has won the Helsingin Sanomat literary prize, and translation rights were sold to 30 countries within the first ten weeks. Niskavaara is an author from Hämeenlinna, art curator, and art researcher who is currently preparing a doctoral thesis on the use and presentation of dead animals in visual arts.

The event takes place in the new Jumbo Library opening in the Jumbo entertainment district.
