Viljami Heinonen: Threshold

Viljami Heinonen's latest exhibition opens doors to various interiors. Despite their apparent decorative quality, they carry something weighty within.

The absence of people is emphasized through the traces they leave behind. Animals are present only as hides or trophies. The space of the works builds up and collapses in the same way that narrative and abstraction occur in each gesture - the paintings possess powerful layering, both physical and temporal. Heinonen paints memories, and the places created by the artist also function as psychological spaces.

Viljami Heinonen (born 1986) graduated from Kankaanpää School of Art in 2012. His works are held in collections including the Helsinki Art Museum HAM, the Saastamoinen Foundation, the Pori Art Museum, the Wihuri Foundation, and the Finnish State Art Collection. Heinonen has received the William Thuring Prize (2022), The Art of Basware Award (2013), and the Marcus Collin Foundation Painting Prize (2025). Threshold is his third solo exhibition at Galerie Forsblom - he has been represented by the gallery since 2025.
