Annantalo Art Saturday: Šiella

In North Sámi, "šiella" means protection or amulet. In this workshop, participants create their own šiella from reindeer antlers and wooden beads - as protection and a reminder of nature's importance and the unity of human community.

Reindeer are central to Sámi culture and way of life. Through them, people have learned to observe nature and its changes. Each reindeer antler is unique, just as each person is - yet we all belong to the same colourful herd, each with our own language, culture, and traditions.

The workshop leader brings greetings from the north along with their reindeer, who donate their antlers to the participants.
