BaranBand is a six-piece Helsinki band led by Iranian-Kurdish brothers Gian and Marouf Majidi, founded in February 2013. The group blends original compositions with rearranged Persian and Kurdish folk material, layering Middle Eastern melodies and North African rhythmic touches over a sound shaped by the members' diverse musical backgrounds. Their debut album Mn Bo To (Global Music Centre, 2017) earned a five-star review from Helsingin Sanomat and brought the band wider recognition across Finland and the Nordic countries. Gian Majidi holds a World Music master's degree from the Sibelius Academy, while Marouf Majidi - a tar and tanbour player from Sanandaj, the musical capital of Iranian Kurdistan - is also active in the jazz-rooted project MA Rouf.
BaranBand is scheduled to perform at Kulttuuritehdas Korjaamo in Helsinki on 23 July 2026, with free admission.
Helsingin Sanomat awarded the debut album Mn Bo To five stars, calling it an exhilarating sound full of joy of life.
