Eric Harland (born November 8, 1976, Houston, Texas) is an American jazz drummer widely regarded as one of the most in-demand percussionists of his generation, with credits on close to 500 recordings. He came up through Houston's High School for the Performing and Visual Arts - the same school as Robert Glasper and Beyoncé - and later studied at the Manhattan School of Music. A long-standing member of Charles Lloyd's Quartet and Dave Holland's Prism, he also co-leads the supergroup James Farm with Joshua Redman and has won DownBeat Critics Poll honors for Rising Star on the Drums.
The quartet album 'First Meeting: Live at Dizzy's Club' - featuring Harland alongside Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Chris Potter and Larry Grenadier - was released on July 11, 2025 via 5Passion Records.
The 'First Meeting' quartet embarked on a multi-city European tour in May 2025, with further dates planned through 2026.
Harland appeared in Drumeo's educational video series 'The Sound of Modern Jazz', demonstrating his techniques for an online audience.
Harland performed with the Crosscurrents Trio (Dave Holland, Chris Potter) at the EFG London Jazz Festival at the Barbican, stepping in after Zakir Hussain was unable to travel due to a medical issue.
Drumeo published a video of Harland improvising his own drum parts for Korn's 'Freak On A Leash' in a single take, drawing wide attention across music communities.
