Lloyd Swanton is a Sydney-born double bassist and composer, best known as a founding member of the Australian avant-garde trio The Necks, which he co-founded in 1987 with pianist Chris Abrahams and drummer Tony Buck. The Necks have released 20 studio albums and won the ARIA Award for Best Jazz Album twice, building a devoted international following with their long-form, fully improvised performances that resist easy genre labels. Swanton is also a three-time winner of Best Bassist at the Australian Jazz and Blues Awards and leads his own group, The catholics, whose albums have earned multiple ARIA nominations.
The Necks released Disquiet, their 20th studio album, a triple-disc set running over three hours, on Northern Spy Records.
The Necks released Bleed, a single 42-minute composition, on Northern Spy Records.
The Necks performed at venues across Europe including Berlin, Prague and Budapest as part of a European tour.
