We Jazz presents the Australian trio The Necks at G Livelab in Helsinki on 22 September. Pianist Chris Abrahams, bassist Lloyd Swanton and drummer Tony Buck have played together for over 30 years and released 18 albums. The trio's latest album Disquiet is a three-hour-plus work that demonstrates how the group continues to deepen its own expression.

The ensemble's music doesn't fit neatly into any category - not avant-garde, minimalism, ambient or jazz. At their concerts, it's never known in advance where the music will go; everything unfolds in the moment.

Formed in Sydney in 1987, this piano trio - Chris Abrahams, Lloyd Swanton and Tony Buck - has spent nearly four decades building hypnotic, hour-long improvisations that critics consistently struggle to classify. Their 20th studio album, Disquiet (2025), is a three-disc, three-hour work that shows the trio still pushing at the edges of what three acoustic instruments can do.
