Patti Smith is an American poet, singer-songwriter and visual artist, widely regarded as one of the founding figures of punk rock. Her 1975 debut album Horses - recorded with producer John Cale at Electric Lady Studios - fused raw poetry with rock in a way that shaped generations of musicians. She was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2007, and her memoir Just Kids won the National Book Award in 2010.
