About

The Libertines are an English rock band formed in London in 1997 by Pete Doherty and Carl Barât, completed by bassist John Hassall and drummer Gary Powell. Their first two albums - Up the Bracket (2002) and The Libertines (2004), both produced by Mick Jones of The Clash - made them one of the defining acts of the early-2000s garage rock revival in the UK. After years of breakups and hiatuses driven by Doherty's well-documented personal troubles, the band returned in 2024 with All Quiet on the Eastern Esplanade, which debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart - their first chart-topper in two decades.
