Three Plays: Onerva, Pohjola-Skarp, Snicker — Töölön kirjasto, Helsinki

Welcome to listen to discussions and exchange thoughts about these plays!

The evening focuses on drama as a literary genre. Grete is a tragedy about Margarete Steffin (1908-1941), a talented Berlin working-class figure who died of tuberculosis. She was recognized only later as a co-author of Bertolt Brecht's central works and as a skilled writer of her own texts.

Theatre influencer Hanna Helavuori and Kalevala Society activity director Niina Hämäläinen will discuss together with drama researcher Riitta Pohjola-Skarp.

Elina Snicker's new work Rosetta Stone is a stage piece that premiered at Ryhmäteatteri and explores the appropriation of ancient memory, scientific struggles, and delusions of grandeur. The key roles feature linguist Jean-François Champollion with his brothers, universal genius Thomas Young with his servants, interpreter and orientalist Kaino, and guard and anaesthesiologist Safiiya.

Syyttäjät, originally completed in 1923, is L. Onerva's only full-length drama. Literature researcher Saija Isomaa will discuss its place in the author's body of work.

The event is hosted by philosopher Jarkko S. Tuusvuori and organized by publisher Ntamo.
